E9 Ding Dong
I moved to Homerton E9 nearly a year ago, and instantly began to notice the numerous tags of ‘E9’ all around the area which I live. East London gangs are among some of the most territorial gangs in London. They mark their ‘ends’, or turf with the postcode their gang belongs to i.e. E9, E5, E3 etc. A lot of the fights and deaths are simply where a youth has been on a gang’s turf.
I started documenting these tags that appear randomly on every surface including walls, bins and park benches. Whilst looking for these tags I photographed the inhabitants and surrounding landscape that these gang call their ‘ends’.
